zdigital What we said: Thanks to the successes of Dizzee and co, UK rap and grime have almost become one and the same in recent years. It’s refreshing then to hear Ipswich-born Kieren Dickins’ debut for Big Dada, which resolutely avoids those two-step breakbeats and DnB inflections to dive headlong into squelching electronics. Vocally, Dels’ stream of consciousness rhymes fall somewhere between label mate Roots Manuva and long-time friend Ghostpoet, but with leftfield production choices Micachu and Joe Goddard of Hot Chip joining Kwes at the helm, GOB’s take on hip hop is brilliantly left of centre. Truly an exciting new talent.
