zdigital What we said: Bucking the much-hyped synthwave and noise-rock trends that hogged all the headlines in indie last year, Deerhunter quietly focused instead on expanding their experimental shoegaze sound. What followed was a faultless fourth album, Halcyon Digest, which signalled a career high for prolific frontman Bradford Cox, and ricocheted between reflective guitar balladry and deliciously woozy baroque-pop, with a healthy dollop of psychedelia thrown in for good measure, courtesy of Animal Collective producer Ben Allen.
