zdigital What we said: A loved-up twosome, releasing Spector-ish, glockenspiel-embellished, girl-group pop through Lily Allen’s record imprint? Yep, on paper the Cults concept could seem a bit sickly for any but the sweetest-toothed music lover. But don’t be fooled by the facts, because beside the sugary-voiced Madeline Follin stands the excellently-named Brian Oblivion, diligently warding off hyperglycemic attacks with a healthy layer of lo-fi guitar fuzz and a few stealthy samples from notorious psychos Jim Jones and Charles Manson. It’s a far cry from the deafening sonic assaults of fellow NYC girl-boy outfit Sleigh Bells, but we think you’ll find it’s equally potent.
